In the midst of the Sixth Great Extinction, 2.9 billion birds have vanished from the world’s skies since the 1970s. This crisis epitomises the extent of the ecological disaster that we face. Vanishing Point is a poetic work that considers this disappearance of birds and the quietening of birdsong from our urban and rural landscapes. 10 transparent prints of a dead golden-crowned Sparrow fade from 100% to 10% opacity. The line of prints hang above a bed of soil with five nests. The nests remind us of the loss of birds and their ecosystems. Cushioned in the earth, they suggest their return to the ecosystem with the possibility of hope for future regeneration.
